Did you make your bed this morning?
Admiral William H. McRaven (U.S. Navy Retired) wrote a National Bestseller entitled Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life and Maybe the World. Check it out, or at least look up his commencement speech on YouTube!
Anyway, my take is this: If you start your day off with a small win, like making your bed, then the rest of your day may just fall into place. Choose something simple to get started, and then grind for 30 days to make it a habit. The task may be easy, but making it a habit will be hard. Yep, that’s right, difficult. It will take self discipline, maybe writing it down so you remember it, maybe getting someone to help hold you accountable even.
Creating a habit means you have to play the long game, not seek immediate results or satisfaction. Ouch! I know!
Oh, and one last thing: you are a person defined by your habits. So you might want to take a look at them and decide if that is who you want to be. It’s not easy, I know from experience, but if you want to grow - it is necessary!
